Rabun Gap celebrates Class of 2021 in 118th Commencement

Members of the Class of 2021 will head to prestigious colleges and universities across the U.S. and around the world.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School celebrated graduates from the Class of 2021 during the School’s 118th Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 16. 

Members of the Class of 2021 hail from across the nation and globe, representing 22 countries and seven U.S. states. These seniors led the way in academics, arts, and athletics. These Rabun Gap graduates will head to the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities. 
 
The Rev. Robert W. Prim, the pastor of Nacoochee Presbyterian Church in Sautee Nacoochee, gave the baccalaureate speech. He left graduates with an inspiring life motto -  to “be kind, open your mind, and help somebody today.” 

Mohamed Nabi Ndiaye, a four-year boarding student from Senegal, was the student speaker and delivered a message of gratitude for his classmates and Rabun Gap faculty and staff,  noting the camaraderie and love expressed among the Class of 2021, especially in light of the many obstacles they faced this year due to the COVID pandemic. 

Alex Mescher of Otto, NC was named valedictorian with the highest GPA in the class.  He will attend Stanford University. 
 
Will Prim of Sautee Nacoochee, GA, and Rachel Wu of Franklin, NC  received The Crystal Eagle Award, the highest award given to Rabun Gap seniors honoring outstanding service in campus and community life.
 
Senior class president Bilan Aden of Somaliland delivered the Prayers of the Class of 2021 and was thanked for her exceptional leadership during a historic year for the class.

"I could not be prouder of this year’s senior class,” said Head of School Mr. Jeff Miles. “These graduates represent the very best of Rabun Gap. The Class of 2021 marks one of the most talented and resilient classes to date. They have overcome insurmountable obstacles in graduating during a historic pandemic while excelling in all that they do. We can’t wait to see the bright futures ahead for these new Rabun Gap alumni.”
