When my wife, Lindsey, and our youngest son, Finn, first stepped onto this beautiful 1,400-acre campus, we experienced the distinct warmth that defines the Rabun Gap community. Having spent more than 25 years leading independent boarding and day schools, I knew immediately that Rabun Gap was unique. We are an elite college preparatory school that remains grounded, authentic, and supportive.
Since 1903, Rabun Gap has been shaping futures from this mountain home. Our founder, Andrew Jackson Ritchie, envisioned a school grounded in the values of Work, Study, Worship—pillars that continue to shape our vibrant, mission-driven community today.
Every school claims to be a "family," but at Rabun Gap, we live it in ways you won't find anywhere else. Our family is a vibrant, global tapestry where local day students and boarding students, both domestic and international, live, learn, and grow together.
We build a culture of deep accountability anchored in communication, trust, and teamwork. You see this vividly when our students collaborate on a complex physics lab, compete on our elite athletic fields, or literally fly through the air in our signature Circus Arts Program—relying entirely on the trust and support of their peers. Above all, we believe learning should be full of joy. Bob Ahrens
Head of School
Meet Mr. Ahrens
Mr. Robert "Bob" Ahrens is the 12th Head of School at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, bringing over 25 years of independent boarding and day school leadership.
Most recently as Head of School at Saratoga Independent School, he drove historic enrollment growth and innovative curriculum design.
His extensive career spans roles as Assistant Head, Upper School Director, Dean, and Math Teacher.
Bob holds a B.S. from The Ohio State University and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from Villanova University. He and his wife, Lindsey, have four children—including Finn '32—and reside on campus.
