Hispanic History Month an opportunity to explore cultures

Students in the Lower School and Middle School have been learning about Hispanic cultures during Hispanic History Month.
It's Hispanic Heritage Month and classes in the Middle School and Lower School have celebrated with special presentations and guests.

Ms. Ashley Burnett's Middle School Spanish classes held presentations for anyone in the classes who have a Hispanic Heritage or connection. Students did research and presented on countries like Argentina, Venezuela, and the Dominican Republic.

The students were asked to make a travel brochure that included flight and hotel prices and an itinerary with recreational activities to do while visiting, all while sticking to a $3,000 budget for one week. They gave their presentation through Google Slides and had the option of sewing a flag, making a traditional dish, wearing a traditional costume, or making a craft from the country of choice for extra credit. The students particularly enjoyed the traditional dishes like Tres Leches cake and Pan de Muertos (Day of the Dead bread).

Parents of Matthew ‘25 and Gabby Rivera ‘27 visited Ms. Diamelia Christie’s class in the Lower School on Wednesday, October 16. Mr. Efrian Rivera, their father, is from Puerto Rico and lived there until he was 13. He shared about his life in Puerto Rico, traditions, and favorite foods. As a special treat, he made questios to share with the class. The students asked Mr. Rivera a number of questions and had a good time tasting some traditional food from Puerto Rico.
