Lower School explores space with planetarium

Lower Schoolers took a trip to the moon and beyond recently thanks to the Macon County Public Library in Franklin, NC.

Thanks to a grant that the Fontana Regional Library System received,  the Macon County Public Library owns a portable indoor planetarium that they take to Macon County schools to give planetarium shows. On September 19, library representatives Vicki Charnoky and Tabitha Moorhead came to the Evelyne Sheats Lower School to give a space presentation to the fourth and fifth graders on a special request from one of the Lower School parents. The show was a special part of how the Lower School celebrated #RockYourSchool Day, a nationwide initiative encouraging all educators to create a unique educational experience for their students.

Charnoky was excited to come because Rabun Gap holds a special place in her heart - her son Ryan attended the school for six years and graduated in 2015. She is especially grateful for the wonderful education he received here and for the friends that he made.

“The friends that he made here have been fabulous. He is in college now and has studied in Europe,” said Charnoky. “He was very well prepared for college when he started college at the University of Georgia. He felt like his study habits were great and that he knew how to live in a dorm. He was so well prepared and for that we are forever grateful.”
