Students celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival

Students enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival together with learning and moon cakes.
On September 21, Upper School and Lower School students came together to learn about and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, a holiday traditionally observed in China.

The seniors gave a presentation on their Mid-Autumn Festival research to the fifth graders. They talked about the culture of the holiday and taught them some Mandarin vocabulary. After their presentation, they made moon cakes together. Other Upper School students also had the opportunity to make moon cakes in various classes throughout the day.

The Lower School Dining Room was festively decorated for the occasion. The seniors, faculty members Ms. Jenny Wang and Mr. Tommy Gao, and Middle School parents Ms. Xiao Wang and Ms. Hui Chen had prepared a space for the Lower School students to come and make moon cakes, a traditional food meant to celebrate the unity of family. The younger students were delighted as they were given the dough and filling and taught how to create the special treats. There was a festive photo frame with the three main characters of the holiday, Hou-yi, Chang-e and Jade Rabbit, and the students and faculty had fun taking pictures with them.

This holiday is celebrated based on the lunar year. This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival is September 25.
