Students survey campus butterflies with local scientists

The environmental science/field ecology class surveyed butterflies with local scientists.
Ms. Amy Jenkin's Environmental Science/Field Ecology class went out surveying for butterflies on campus with scientists Jason Love and Katie Bower, from Coweeta lab. Their priority was to locate, capture, and tag monarch butterflies that are headed south on their way to their over-wintering habitat in Mexico. The tagging is part of a larger effort by scientists across the US, Canada, and Mexico, to learn more about the location and timing of the annual monarch migration. In total, students caught and identified 35 butterflies (12 species) and tagged three monarchs.
