Residents of Josephine Nyakundi’s hometown of Kenya will have access to books this summer thanks to the Rabun Gap sophomore’s on campus book drive and the generosity of a local congregation.

Josephine was inspired to host a book drive at Rabun Gap because she said reading materials are not readily available in her hometown. She said she’d like to start a regular book club there, where people gather to discuss a common novel. Josephine chose the classic “A Wrinkle in Time.”

Students and faculty donated many boxes of additional books to the cause, which Josephine will bring home with her to Kenya this summer. Grace Calvary Episcopal Church in Clarkesville, GA, led by The Rev. Sam Buice, donated 10 copies of “A Wrinkle in Time,” and a monetary donation to help Josephine pay for the books’ shipping costs.
