"Cirque Malvagio" mesmerizes audiences

The annual show featured awe-inspiring cirque and carnival acts.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School presented “Cirque Malvagio” on February 16-17, bringing a spectacular display of cirque acts, live music, and beautiful dance to the Rearden Theater stage.

“Cirque Malvagio,” inspired by Ray Bradbury’s “Something Wicked This Way Comes,” followed the story of two sisters and their friends. When a mysterious carnival comes to town, and the youngest sister goes missing, the group of outcast kids band together. This show featured no spoken dialogue. The Rabun Gap Orchestra and singers performed live music to tell the story.

This year’s show featured new and familiar cirque acts, including the aerial silks, lyra, Spanish web, Chinese pole, and flying harnesses. There were also several other exciting acts including contortionists and fire breathing.

“Cirque Malvagio” was planned by the Cirque Planning Committee, a group of students and faculty who have been working on the show for months. According to students, the idea was to replicate the feel of movies and TV “The Goonies” and “Stranger Things.”
