Upper School students attend Model United Nations event

Thirteen Rabun Gap students participated in Model United Nations event on February 9-10
Thirteen students represented Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School on February 9-10 at the Model United Nations event in Athens, Georgia. Since 1999, Rabun Gap has established a team of students to take part in Model United Nations. This year was no different. Model United Nations is an authentic simulation of the UN General Assembly, UN Security Council, or other multilateral body, which introduces students to the world of diplomacy, negotiation, and decision making.

Zoe Owens ’18, has been a participating at Model UN since her freshman year.

“When I first started MUN, I still thought that I wanted to go into the medical field when I was older. Now I want to pursue international relations, and I credit part of that decision to my experiences in MUN,” Owens said.  “Being in a simulation of the UN, and having to explore multifaceted issues that are affecting many different nations in different ways, showed me that most international issues are not black and white. I have also learned valuable skills of communication and collaboration because I have had to work with others on finding resolutions that are agreeable to all. As the Head Delegate of Model UN, I have also learned new leadership skills, and how to solve issues without panicking. I would encourage anybody who wishes to try Model UN because of the positive influence that it has had on me.”

Rabun Gap applauds our students’ efforts for participating and pursuing to become global citizens of the world. Please click here to read more about Model UN.
