Ladies fall 1-3 on road against West Oak

Rabun Gap Lady Eagles fell on the road to West Oak Middle School in a best out of 5 match, losing 1-3.
The action got underway in Westminster tonight as Rabun Gap was on the road to face West Oak Middle School. The ladies stumbled in the first two sets in a best of 5 set match. Several passing errors were the result of West Oak's impressive power servers who dominated the game for the most part through two sets. The Eagles struggled to gain footing as they allowed 25 passing errors in the first two sets alone.

It looked like it was going to be a swift and easy victory for the Warriors of West Oak as they took sets one and two 25-11, 25-9. However, Reese Ward found her own groove serving the ball, and pushed West Oak deep. Down 24-13 in set 3, Reese brought the Eagles not only back, but forced a fourth set by dominating their passing line. She served a consecutive 13 points for the go ahead set 3 victory 24-26.

After a taste of their own medicine, the Warriors were stunned, and the Eagles started to play to their potential in set 4. They led 12-10 midway through the fourth set, and the Eagles now breathed new life. Lucy Barry was stellar up front, tallying 3 blocks on the night and two kills. Claren Spivey added a couple kills of her own, and Milli Watts showed she can play with the best of them as she assisted Sarah Hicks with a beautiful kill in set 3.  Late in set 4, however, with the score tied at 16, the Eagles once again lost footing to the relentless power serving of West Oak and fell in set 4, 25-17.

Coach BySura had this to say after the game. "An interesting night to say the least. The girls continue to learn and be pushed to their limits on the court. Tonight they learned how important it is to communicate and work together.  I hope these lessons will start translating into victories for them. West Oak is a very good ball club and our girls now see what it is going to take to start winning."

The Eagles face West Oak next Tuesday at home in a best of 5 match, and also have a Thursday home match versus rival Highlands. Please come out and support your Lady Eagles.
