Eagles win on the road in 11 innings

Adam Justus did it all Friday afternoon to lead the Eagles to a thrilling 9-5 extra inning victory over the Smoky Mountain Mustangs.  Justus saved a run with a diving defensive play at first base, pitched five shutout innings to earn the win, and started the game winning rally with a leadoff single in the eleventh inning.  The Eagles had jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on the strength of a pair of 2 RBI singles from Seth Justus and Gavyn Jones.  The Mustangs tied the game on a Rabun Gap throwing error in the sixth inning to set the stage for five extra innings of baseball. Adam Justus came into pitch in the seventh inning and pitched the final five innings striking out 6 and walking none.  In the top of the eleventh, Justus lead off the inning with a single and Caleb Croft entered the game to run for him.  Croft went to second on a passed ball and then moved to third on a perfect Hunter Stanley bunt.  Garrison Melzer then scored Croft on a two strike bunt to give the Eagles the lead.  A Carter King single then drove in two more runs for Rabun Gap to pad the lead.  King continued his hot hitting for the Eagles with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s in the game.
