At Rabun Gap, the college counseling discussion begins with eighth graders as they choose courses for ninth grade. The process continues throughout high school with the assistance of upper school advisors, and the guidance of the college counseling staff. Students and their parents receive individualized attention regarding the college selection process, applying to college, and guidance with the financial aid process. Features of the college counseling program include:
Junior and Senior Seminar programs where the college counselor provides hands-on instruction on the process of choosing and applying to colleges.
Trips to several college fairs each year, exposing Rabun Gap students to representatives from colleges across the country and world.
Hosting a variety of college representatives who visit the Rabun Gap campus each year.
Assistance with timely registration for important college admission testing such as the PSAT, PLAN, SAT, and ACT. Effective the 2012-13 school year, students are responsible for payment and completed registration of the ACT and SAT.
An optional SAT prep program (at additional cost).
Hosting a parent information session and a financial aid session each fall where counselors present pertinent and timely information to parents of juniors and seniors.
Rabun Gap holds membership in the National Association of College Admission Counseling, the Southern Association of College Admission Counseling, and the College Board.
