Rabun Gap opens 120th academic year with 675 strong

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School started the first day of the 2023-2024 school year on Wednesday, August 23, welcoming 675 students in PreK through 12th grade.

Rabun Gap is serving more students than ever from the local area and around the world. Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School continues its founding mission to deliver premier educational opportunities rooted in its highly regarded applied learning curriculum for students in all divisions. This year, 69% of students are local to Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.  The 108-member Class of 2024 is the largest graduating class in school history. There are 50 countries and 16 states represented in this year’s talented student body.

“I’m excited to begin another monumental school year at Rabun Gap,” said Head of School Jeff Miles. “There is so much to celebrate. We are excited to enter a new school year with thriving enrollment and with a student body that excels in all areas of campus life - in the classroom, on the courts and fields, and on stage. Our students represent the brightest young people from across the valley and around the world. We have an extremely talented and experienced group of educators leading in our classrooms. Campus is full of excitement and energy as we enter this new academic year.”

Students returned to class Wednesday eager to dive into Rabun Gap’s innovative applied learning curriculum and premier arts and athletic programs. Fall athletics are underway, and preparations have begun for the annual Cirque show.

Renovations to the School’s almost 100-year-old academic building Hodgson Hall are also underway and are being led by Carroll Daniel Construction. The completely restored space will feature updated classrooms with the latest educational technology, a student commons area, and faculty workspaces. The renovated Hodgson Hall is sure to be one of the most elite educational facilities in the region.

“Rabun Gap continues to lead the way as one of the top schools in the country. I am excited about our future with the restoration of Hodgson Hall, and I am looking forward to another great school year,” said Miles.
