Rabun Gap has been home away from home for a group of boarding students and faculty forced to evacuate from Hurricane Florence.
Twelve international boarding students from Ashley Hall School, an independent all-girls school in Charleston, South Carolina, arrived last week as the storm threatened to hit the South Carolina coastline. They are accompanied by three Ashley Hall faculty members — Assistant Director of Admission Shannon Laribo, Director of Global Studies Jeff Dionne, and Residential Director Naoko Dionne.
The girls stayed in Jane Dorm and ate meals in the dining hall with the Rabun Gap community.
The Ashley Hall visitors enjoyed being a part of boarding life at Rabun Gap and spent some time last week exploring Rabun County and downtown Clayton. They also participated in activities with Rabun Gap’s boarding students over the weekend. The group was able to return home on Monday, September 17.
Rabun Gap’s Dean of Students June Beale coordinated the visit.
“We were happy to offer a place of refuge for Ashley Hall’s boarding students as they evacuated from the hurricane,” she said. “Our students and faculty welcomed them with open arms.”
