MS Development Team falls to Cullowhee 1-2

After a strong start taking set one, the young Eagles fell behind and dropped two sets falling to Cullowhee 1-2.
Tonight, several of the youngest members of the Rabun Gap Middle School Volleyball program took the court against mountain rival Cullowee Valley.  The Eagles started with the hot hand and didn't look back. Excellent serving from Riley Weatherly got things going for the Eagles as they jumped out to a quick 6-2 start. Bella Zavala followed Riley with 4 more serving points of her own. Reese Ward pitched in with good defensive play and 8 serving points. The Eagles managed to set up an excellent kill in set one with a pass from Milli Watts, assist from Reese Ward and a kill by Ava Chordegian. They took set one in style 25-12 and got the crowd into the game as well.

Cullowee replaced several members of their team from set one and the serving got tougher for the Eagles to handle. The Eagles dropped set 2, 12-25, and were forced to go to a third set. The ladies began feeling the pressure in set 3, as passing errors became a problem. They were down 6-8 with a chance to climb back on top, but service errors prevented a comeback and they dropped set 3 11-15.

Coach BySura had this to say after the game, "Super proud of these young ladies tonight. We had 3 sixth graders on the court playing their hearts out, and they showed everyone that they are working as hard as they can to improve. I feel like every ball they touched was a learning opportunity. This team learned a lot tonight about speed, intensity, anticipation, and teamwork. Very impressed with their effort."
