Rabun Gap government students talk with Congressman Collins

Rabun Gap's AP Government students recently gained insight from Congressmen Doug Collins.
Students in Chip Miller's AP Government class had the chance to virtually meet with U.S. Congressman Doug Collins on Friday, December 2. The class set up a video call with Collins, and students asked asked thoughtful questions on topics ranging from health care to the Hope Scholarship. Congressman Collins has represented Georgia's 9th district, which includes Rabun and 19 other counties in Northeast Georgia, since 2013. The Gainesville, GA, native is a member of the House Judiciary and Rule Committees.

Later that day, students in Mr. Miller's class also met with firefighters who have been battling wildfires in Rabun County. Bryan Swanson and Jeff Harper of the Southern Area Incident Response Team talked to the class about their work. Firefighters used the Middle School Complex parking lot as a home base for the operation as they worked to put out the Rock Mountain Fire that approached the Betty's Creek Road area in late November.
