MS Lady Eagles Volleyball hosts Trimont Christian in preseason Scrimmage

The Lady Eagles hosted Trimont Christian Academy in a learning scrimmage to begin the season.

The Lady Eagles hosted Trimont Christian Academy in what has become tradition for the past three seasons. This game is a learning scrimmage to begin the season for both teams. The girls came into the gym fired up and ready to go. Their faces told a story of both excitement and nervousness. Many of them are new to the sport and they have only worked together as a team for four days, in addition to learning a new offense that is challenging even at the highest level.

That being said, and as in years before, the ladies started the first set off extremely slow. They failed to get solid passing, and missed several easy serves that attacked the psyche of the girls, and Trimont pulled ahead to a 9-0 lead to start set one. After some regrouping, the ladies bounced back mentally, and put together a few small scoring runs, and began to show some life. Newcomer Sara Hicks was able to square up on a set from Sadie Martin for a beautiful kill in set one that showed the potential of this young team. However, it wasn't meant to be, and even a late rally wasn't enough as the Eagles fell flat in set 1, losing 25-14.

In set two the Ladies knew what had to be done to stay alive. They showed improved passing, as well as attacking. 6th grader Claren Spivey proved she has what it takes to compete at a higher level serving 5 straight points and setting to her attackers well.  But the Lady Eagles' transitions from offense to defense were to slow and a lack of communication, poor footwork, and consistent missed serving sealed a 2nd set win for Trimont 25-12. Trimont took the match in two sets.

Coach BySura had this to say after the game, "I am not disappointed, I am actually happy this happened because a loss like this is an incredibly valuable learning experience. They needed to experience how fast this game is played, how focused they must always be, how quick they need to move, and how fearless they must become. It's not an easy sport, and tonight they had several eye opening moments. Let's see how they grow, that for me is the exciting part."
