Legacy Giving

Leave a Legacy at RGNS

Thank you for considering a legacy gift to Rabun Gap–Nacoochee School. Planned gifts play a vital role in ensuring that future generations of students benefit from the same transformative educational experience that has shaped lives for more than a century. This page provides clear guidance on how to include RGNS in your estate plans, why these gifts matter, and how your generosity can create lasting impact.

What is Legacy Giving?

Legacy giving allows you to make a meaningful gift to RGNS in the future, typically through your estate plans, without affecting your current financial situation. These gifts enable donors to ensure that the values and priorities most important to them continue well beyond their lifetimes.

Estate gifts of the past have strengthened scholarship opportunities, supported exceptional teaching, expanded programs, and enhanced campus facilities. Your legacy can do the same.

Why Consider an Estate Gift?

Many donors choose planned giving because it allows them to:

  • Create lasting impact on students, programs, and the school’s mission.
  • Preserve financial security during their lifetime.
  • Align their legacy with a place that shaped their life or their family.
  • Gain potential tax advantages, depending on the type of gift.

A planned gift is a meaningful way to express gratitude, support future students, and ensure the mission of the school endures.

Examples of Legacy Gifts

A Scholarship That Lives On

Stell Huie, a long-time trustee, included RGNS as a beneficiary of his estate. His bequest now funds an annual scholarship for a student with financial need, allowing a student each year to attend RGNS who otherwise would not have had the opportunity.

A Home Supports Financial Aid

RGNS Alumni siblings Grace Fuqua ‘39 JC and Walter Fuqua ‘39 JC left a piece of property to Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School with directives for it to be sold to support financial aid. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale funded multiple scholarships that year.

A Long-Term Plan for Your DAF

Many Rabun Gap donors use Donor Advised Funds as a way to plan and execute their charitable giving during their lifetime.  Did you know that you can designate a beneficiary for your DAF as part of your succession plan?  An anonymous donor has named Rabun Gap as their beneficiary, ensuring that their charitable impact continues long beyond the donor’s lifetime.

Making the Most of Retirement Assets

A longtime RGNS anonymous grandparent designated the school as a beneficiary of a portion of her IRA. Because retirement assets are heavily taxed when inherited, this choice allowed her to leave more tax-efficient assets to her family while still making a substantial charitable gift.

The Mountain Legacy Society

Friends and families who remember RGNS in their estate plans are welcomed into the Mountain Legacy Society, our honorary group of legacy donors.

While it is helpful to know any restrictions you may wish to place on your gift, you are under no obligation to share the size or specifics. These details remain entirely at your discretion. Regardless of what you choose to share, we would be honored to list you as a member of the Mountain Legacy Society as a testament to your generosity, vision, and commitment to future generations.
