Rabun Gap opens 2022-2023 school year with record enrollment

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School started the first day of the 2022-2023 school year on Wednesday, August 24, welcoming a record enrollment of 682 students to campus.

Rabun Gap is serving more students than ever from the local area and around the world. Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School continues its founding mission to deliver premier educational opportunities across the local region for students in grades PreK3 through 12. This year, 68% of students are local to Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, with 65 students from Habersham County.  The 105-member Class of 2023 will be the largest graduating class in school history.

There are 51 countries and 16 states represented in this year’s student body, and students come from six of the seven continents.

“There is so much to celebrate at Rabun Gap as we welcome our students and teachers back to campus,” said Head of School Jeff Miles. “We are excited to enter a new school year with record enrollment for the third consecutive year. Our students represent the most talented young people from across the valley and around the world, and it was great to see campus alive with energy once again.”

Students returned to class Wednesday eager to dive in to Rabun Gap’s innovative applied learning curriculum and premier arts and athletic programs. Rabun Gap’s strategic focus is to create relevant, applied learning experiences across grade levels. The applied learning curriculum equips students with skills to solve real-world problems. Teachers spent pre-planning time before school working with applied learning expert Trevor Muir, author of “The Epic Classroom” and creator of a podcast with the same name. Fall athletics are already underway, and preparations have begun for the annual Cirque show.

“Rabun Gap continues to lead the way as one of the top schools for academics in the country,” said Miles. “I am looking forward to another great school year.”
