Jack Moores '24 Drafted to the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League

Sophomore Jack Moores has been drafted into the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League (OJLL). Moores was selected 22nd overall by the St. Catharine's Athletics.

The Ontario Junior Lacrosse League is the top junior box lacrosse league in Ontario. Many athletes who compete in the OJLL are drafted into the National Lacrosse League. The league is made up of 11 teams. Box lacrosse differs from field lacrosse which Moores plays at Rabun Gap. It is played on a thawed or covered ice hockey rink that still has the glass and boards intact. During the game, each team will have five runners and a goalie on the floor at a time with the runners rotating in shifts.

Moores, who hails from Oshawa, Ontario, is no stranger to the OJLL. His grandfather also played in the league for many years and won five championships. It was through his grandfather that he found his passion for lacrosse and, while very humble, he looks forward to the opportunities that will come from being drafted.

“It definitely presents more opportunities to possibly play professionally,” said Moores. “I still have a lot of skills I have to develop and this league helps players do that. I think it will also help with getting selected for a university.”

Moores has been an excellent addition to the Rabun Gap lacrosse program. He made a big impact on the team as part of the leadership group and ended the season with six assists, 14 goals, 20 takeaways, 116 ground balls, and won 60% of faceoffs.

Head Coach Ryne Linsley was excited about the accomplishment and what it means for Moores and the Rabun Gap lacrosse program.

“This is, apart from the National Lacrosse League, the highest honor that he could get, the highest achievement that he could achieve in his age group,” Linsley said. “It’s a massive personal achievement for Jack and I think that it shows the trajectory that our team is headed.”
