Athlete Profile: Jackson Palmer '22

Jackson Palmer '22 has been a member of the golf team for four years and played on our state championship soccer team this fall! Jackson will be graduating this Sunday and will be attending Auburn University to study business.

How long have you been golfing?
I have been golfing for about 4 years now.

What inspired you to golf?
My grandfather took me out for the first time and that is when I started enjoying the game.

What is the best part about playing for the Eagles golf team?
My teammates. No matter how bad I might play one day they are always there for me and we just have such good chemistry on the team, no one takes themselves too seriously. We all understand that golf is a hard game and that just because you play bad one day doesn't mean you can't play great the next.

What has been the most exciting match so far for you?
Our win against Tallulah Falls was great! It was our first win of the year and we managed to shoot pretty low that day so all in all it was a fun round.

What led you to come golf at Rabun Gap?
I met some friends freshman year that played golf and as I started to enjoy the game outside of school. I figured it would be very beneficial for me to join the team, and it has been.

What is the hardest part of being a student-athlete? How has the environment and people here at Rabun Gap helped you?
The hardest part is the balance of free time and school work, we have very busy schedules at school and by the time we go through the entire school day and have practice a lot of us don't get home until late, so it's all about being super efficient with free time

What makes playing at Rabun Gap special to you?
Just being around people from all over the world is such a special thing that not many people get the chance to experience, and we play on one of the nicest soccer fields I have ever played on in the prettiest setting.

What is your favorite thing about your coaches?
Mr. Miller is a coach who is always pushing me to be better, whether it be at golf, in the classroom, or just at the game of life, he is always pushing me to be better.

What's your favorite class and why?
My favorite class this year was Animal Behavior. My teacher, as well as my coach, Mr. Brooks, has made the class very informative while we learn about why animals do the things they do and how evolution has honed in certain traits for all animals.

What are your plans for after high school?
I will be attending Auburn University in the fall with plans to major in business.

What other school activities or organizations/other sports are you involved with?
I was a member of the soccer team in the fall and was able to win the State Championship with those boys and am lucky enough to still play golf with a few of them now.
