Faculty Profile: Tyler Gittins, Upper School Science Teacher

Tyler Gittins is one of our biology and anatomy teachers in the Upper School. Mr. Gittins holds a degree in Biology from Wittenberg University where he received the Wittenberg University Biology Teaching Careers Award. He joined the faculty in 2020 and enjoys running and playing polo. 

What made you choose to work at Rabun Gap?
The rich diversity and sense of community that Rabun Gap has. 
 
What did you do before coming to Rabun Gap?
I was in college studying biology and education and running track and field. 
 
What makes Rabun Gap special to you?
The community here is unlike any I have ever been around. 
 
What do you like most about working with our students?
The students here care about each other and are constantly supporting one another in the classroom, on the field, and in the arts.
 
Why did you decide to become a teacher? 
I have a call to be a teacher and work with kids.
 
What is your teaching philosophy?  
I try to meet every student where they are at in their journey and help them continue their educational journey.
 
You are one of the Cross Country and Track coaches.  What did you enjoy most about coaching?
The best about coaching is watching the kids begin to believe in themselves and further develop self confidence.
 
What is your favorite memory from the time you have worked here so far?
The 4x100 winning the state championship in 2021. They were the underdogs going in but they kids believed in each other and pulled if off.
 
What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume alone?
I like to play polo in my free time.
