Student Profile: Justin Jang '22

Meet Justin Jang '22! Justin is an honor roll student, prefect, Gap Guide, and a member the soccer and golf teams. He is a boarding student from Seoul, South Korea and has attended Rabun Gap for the past four years.

Why did you choose to attend Rabun Gap?
I’ve been in love with Rabun Gap since the 2nd grade when I first visited the campus to drop my older brother off. The green hills and the beautiful sky immediately caught my eyes.

What makes Rabun Gap special to you?
Rabun Gap offers so many programs and courses that allows student’s to prepare for the next step of their life. The quality of these programs also surprised me a lot as they were such high quality.

What is your favorite memory from Rabun Gap?
One of many great memories from Rabun Gap was having snowballs fights against the other dorms and sledding down the front hill on a snow day.

What are your extracurriculars and what do you like most about them?
I play varsity golf, soccer, and am also the leader of the modern science club. One of the best things about being part of the Rabun Gap golf team is that we are able to play golf at a beautiful golf course (Sky Valley) everyday.

Tell us what it's like to be a prefect. What are your responsibilities and what is your favorite part of being a prefect?
For me, being a prefect is simply always being there to help underclassmen with their school life. It can be very hard for boarding students to be so far away from home living on their own.

Which Rabun Gap teachers and/or coaches have had the biggest impact on you during your time here?
Mr. Brooks has been a crucial influence in my high school career as a teacher, coach, and a dorm parent. He is more than a teacher and he is always there to help me even with my personal issues. He also influenced my decision to study biological sciences in college.

What do you enjoy most about being a boarding student?
My favorite part about being a boarder is the variety of activities offered to boarders including trips to shopping malls, baseball games, and even amusement parks.

What advice would you give another student who is interested in boarding and attending Rabun Gap?
If you are looking for an active and diverse community that will support whatever your interests are, Rabun Gap is the perfect place.

Which interests do you pursue outside of the classroom?
Soccer, golf, and science.
