She believes that the classroom should be the safest place for creativity and exploration and that there is something for everyone in the theater!

What made you choose to work at Rabun Gap?
The performing arts program at Rabun Gap has always stood out in our community and when I had an opportunity to be a part of it, I jumped on it!

What did you do before coming to Rabun Gap?
Before working at Rabun Gap I was teaching dance, choreographing musicals, and performing in Atlanta.

What makes Rabun Gap special to you?
Rabun Gap is special because of the individuals that make it up. Our faculty and staff, students, and parents are incredible. We really are like a family.

What have you enjoyed most working with our students so far?
I have always loved how much our students support each other. MADfest is a great example. The day after MADfest auditions we often have students with sore throats because they've been cheering so loudly for their peers the day before.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I decided to become a teacher because I learned very young that teachers have the power to shape someone’s life forever. For better or worse, teachers have a unique opportunity to influence a person while they commence the incredibly vulnerable act of learning and creating. I wanted to stand in that space with students as they become whoever it is they are going to be.

As the Middle School performing arts teacher, you direct plays, musicals, and cirque performances.  What did you enjoy most about directing such a wide range of performances?

The diverse nature of my position is one of the things that makes this role so fulfilling for me. It’s why I chose to pursue Musical Theatre in college. I love that kids have the opportunity to express themselves through acting, singing, dancing, cirque, & technical theatre. We always say that there is something for everyone in theatre and my hope is that I can be the guide that proves that to them.

Your daughter is a student at the Lower School.  What is it like working at the same school that your daughter attends?

To know that my child is being looked after by some of the best humans on the planet just a few minutes away from me makes it a little bit easier to breathe every day.

What is your favorite memory from the time you have worked here so far?
I once got a note from a student that said, “Thank you for giving me a voice.” It’s one of the most important  things I’ve ever read.
