Athlete Profile: Eryn Blakeley '22

Senior, Eryn Blakeley has been a huge asset to the Rabun Gap golf team.  Eryn is a boarding student at the Upper School from Saint Michael, Barbados.  This is her fourth year at Rabun Gap.  Eryn is an excellent student and a prefect.  In addition to golf, she also participates in the Arts and will be a part of the musical in the Winter.

How long have you been playing golf?

I have been playing golf for about 13 years now.

What inspired you to play golf?

My late older sister Isabelle inspired me to play, she is also the reason I continue to play.

What is the best part about playing for the Eagles golf team?

That I have all the girls support me every step of the way.

What has been the most exciting game so far for you?

My most exciting game was the first game I shot 72, which is my lowest score ever!

What led you to come play golf at Rabun Gap?

I wanted to play golf at a school that I knew I would succeed in. It’s more like I picked this school for the golf team rather than picking the school then deciding to do golf.

Your sisters, Jade '24 and Laea '26, are on the team with you.  What is your favorite part about being on the team with them?

The best part of having my sisters on the team is being able to do my family sport with my family before I graduate high school. My sisters are my number 1 supporters and I love them.

What is the hardest part of being a student-athlete? How has the environment and people here at Rabun Gap helped you?

The hardest part of being a student athlete is being behind on work, but every teacher I’ve spoken to here is extremely understanding and help me with whatever I need.

What makes playing at Rabun Gap special to you?
Playing at Rabun Gap is special because it’s a home away from my island team, we bond over the smallest things and the biggest experiences.

What is your favorite thing about your coaches?

My favorite thing about Mr. Nowack is how he really stepped in to that parental roll in my life, and how he never fails to make me laugh.  My favorite thing about Mrs. Ager is how dedicated she has been to us throughout the years and she never stopped caring about us.

What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I help out in the arts department and I love to write music and sing.

What's your favorite class and why?

My favorite class is Senior Humanities with Mr. Linsley because he is so interactive with us and makes me laugh all the time.

What are your plans for after high school?
I plan on going to University and studying Psychology to become a Child Psychologist for A-typical children and kids on the spectrum.

What other school activities or organizations/other sports are you involved with?

I am involved with the musical!
