Rabun Gap Lacrosse opens inaugural season

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School's inaugural season of lacrosse started off strong with a huge win in the boys home opener on Friday, March 19.

The Eagles defeated Christ Church Episcopal 8-1 in front of a home crowd, marking a historic day for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School’s athletic program. The School introduced lacrosse as its newest sport this year, with Coach Ryne Linsley leading the boys team.

Linsley was happy with the way the team performed in their first game.

“It was inspiring to watch our team compete with heart and spirit,” he said.  “Our guys have shown tremendous integrity and care for their program for which they are laying the foundation!”

It was a hard fought game on both ends as the Eagles found their stride on the lacrosse field.  With goals by Fred Droese ‘22 (2), Jules Ney ‘24 (2), Bryce Phillips ‘25 (2), Liam Kuhl ‘23, Lukas Majer ‘23 and assists by Emil Bennich ‘22 (3), Phillips, Adne Brako ‘22 (2), and Yunus Altincinar ‘23, the Eagles came away with the victory.

“I was happy for the guys to feel the pressure, uncertainty, and excitement of competition. That's not something that we can easily simulate in practice. Lacrosse is an emotional game and we will certainly benefit from the experience as our season unfolds,” Linsley said.

The Middle School boys lacrosse team also kicked off its season with a home scrimmage against Summit Charter on Saturday.

The Eagles continue their season this Friday at Farragut (TN) High School.
