Rabun Gap opens with record enrollment for 20-21

The campus was alive with activity on Wednesday, August 26 as students and faculty both returned to campus for the first day of the 2020-2021 school year.
Rabun Gap students returned to the classroom for a much-anticipated,  historic start to the school year on Wednesday, August 26.

This year marks the largest and most diverse enrollment in school history. Rabun Gap welcomes 630 students from 56 different countries and 16 states. New countries and areas represented this year include Congo, Costa Rica, Gambia, Guatemala, Ireland, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, and Zimbabwe.

Campus was full of joy on the first day as students reunited with their friends and teachers for the first time in six months since the global COVID-19 pandemic caused schools across the country to go online last spring.

"It was an amazing first day welcoming new and returning students to class," said Head of School Jeff Miles. "The campus is energized with a record enrollment of incredible students. We are excited for the year ahead".

Rabun Gap committed to opening fully in all programs for the 2020-2021 school year, implementing a comprehensive safety plan that includes social distancing across campus, face coverings, and daily symptom checks.  Boarding students have been on campus since the summer months, arriving in staggered groups to allow for testing before classes and programs began.

Rabun Gap's 1,400-acre campus allows for engaged, in-person learning in a socially distant environment. Students will enjoy lots of opportunities for outdoor learning and exploration; the new Outdoor Classroom at the Middle School is open, and the Lower School has a brand-new playground.

"I am so proud of our students, employees, and families for coming together during this time and adapting to all of the new safety protocols," Miles said. "It is a blessing to have our community back together again. We are truly safer together."
