Rabun Gap equips divisions with Meeting OWLs

Meeting OWLs have been distributed to each division to aid in learning during the 2020-2021 school year.
In order to meet the needs of students and faculty in the COVID-19 environment, Rabun Gap recently invested in a number of Meeting OWLs that will be used during the 2020-2021 school year in each division as needed.

The Meeting Owl is a 360-degree microphone & camera system that will allow students to synchronously attend classes when they are unable to attend in person. It utilizes software like Zoom and Google Meet to project the image of the classroom for those not able to attend. The camera naturally moves to capture speaking and conversation so students in a virtual setting will be able to see and interact with their teacher and peers in real-time. Faculty will also use them to record segments of class which they will then post online for times of asynchronous learning.

"I believe the Meeting OWL offers us an opportunity to blend the world of synchronous and asynchronous education to leverage learning spaces for our entire school community,” said Director of Curriculum and Applied Learning Steve Nowack. “This unique technology brings the possibility for all learners, no matter time or space, to be in classes together and interacting both with their friends and teachers while continuing to ensure the highest quality of Rabun Gap education amid difficult circumstances."

Rabun Gap was blessed to be able to acquire these state-of-the-art devices and looks forward to putting them to use this coming year.
