Dominique Chaplin to teach Spanish at Upper School

Ms. Chaplin will teach grades 9-12 in our world language department.
Teach for America alum Dominique  Chaplin joins our world language department as a Spanish teacher at the Upper School.

Ms. Chaplin has spent the past two years teaching Spanish in rural South Carolina with the Teach for America program. Outside of her Teach for America work, Ms. Chaplin has a strong background in working with students through a variety of nonprofit and educational organizations. She directed a summer program for recently immigrated youth in the Greater Boston area with the Harvard-sponsored non-profit Philips Brooks House Association. Ms. Chalin was also a Boston Urban Teaching Fellow where she had an immersive experience working in an urban English Language Learners classroom and taught ninth-grade leadership and academic skills at Breakthrough Greater Boston.

Ms. Chaplin earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Wellesley College.

“I wanted to work in an education environment that was student-centered and gave teachers the ability to explore academic passions,” said Ms. Chaplin. “The school's global approach and mission for inclusion is something I was drawn to as well with the vast opportunities for students and staff to get involved within the school community.”

Ms. Chaplin has a connection with Rabun Gap’s global community.  She grew up abroad and has lived in six different countries - Cuba, Ecuador, Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, Paraguay, and the United States! She also played rugby in college and has a deep appreciation for the sport. She also enjoys longboarding, appreciating film, and spending time on the beach.

Ms. Chaplin will live on campus and serve on a residential life team. She will also serve as an assistant coach for JV boys soccer and varsity swimming.
