Weston Willard named Director of English Immersion

He will work closely with our international community.
Weston Willard comes to Rabun Gap from Hawaii, joining the faculty as Director of the English Immersion Program.

Mr. Willard brings 20 years of teaching experience to his new role, after a 17-year career serving in schools in Hawaii. Most recently, he served as chair of the social studies department at Kamehameha Schools, where he was a successful AP history teacher and led elective classes in Hawaiian culture, Hawaiian issues, and civics. He has worked at several schools across the Aloha state, teaching social studies, math, and technology to primarily native Hawaiian students. He brings a strong commitment to cultural education and project-based curriculum.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with an incredibly diverse community and motivated teachers to empower the next generation of leaders to positively impact local, national, and global communities,” Mr. Willard said.

Outside of the classroom, he has coached varsity girls basketball, earning State Coach of the Year in 2016, and leading his team to win the Division II state championship in 2018. He also volunteered as a Special Olympics basketball coach for 11 years in Hawaii.

Mr. Willard holds a Bachelor of Science from Wake Forest University where he majored in business and minored in Russian. He also holds an M.Ed. in School Leadership from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education and a Post Baccalaureate Teaching Degree in Secondary Social Studies from the University of Hawaii.

In his role with the English Immersion Program, Mr. Willard will work closely with Rabun Gap’s international student population. He will also coach track and varsity girls basketball, as well as serves on a residential life team.

In his free time, Mr. Willard competes in triathlons and ultimate frisbee. He also loves spending time with his family, who live on campus with him.
