Kate Walters joins faculty as Director of Learning Support Services

Ms. Walters comes with years of experience working with students in Asheville
Kate Walters has joined the Rabun Gap faculty as Director of Learning Support Services. In her role, Ms. Walters will lead the Teaching and Learning Center at the Upper School.

Ms. Walters comes to Rabun Gap from her hometown of Asheville, NC.  She spent the past five years as the Department Chair of Study Skills and Learning Specialist at Carolina Day School. She has coached students and adults in executive function skills for 15 years in boarding school, day school, and homeschool settings in Asheville.  Ms. Walters earned an advanced Orton Gillingham certification from the Key Learning Center in Asheville and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

Ms. Walters is no stranger to boarding school - she met her husband Jeremy while they were both faculty children at Christ School in the 1990s. The couple will live on campus with their two children, Asher '24 and Zoe '29.

“I'm excited and grateful to join the Rabun Gap community and especially to work and teach alongside faculty and students from all over the world,” she said. “I grew up on boarding school campuses and always hoped to raise my own family in a tight-knit community.  I appreciate the mission of Rabun Gap to help lift others up and look forward to participating in that as a faculty member.”

When she’s not working with students, Ms. Walters enjoys documentary photography, music, and spending time outdoors.
