Eagles Spotlight: Johannes Solibieda '22, swimming

Johannes Solibieda excels on the Rabun Gap swim team.
Johannes Solibieda of Germany has been excelling in the pool and breaking Rabun Gap records for the Eagles swim team.

Johannes came to Rabun Gap with seven years of experience swimming competitively. He was a member of the team that broke all three school records in relay. Johannes made state-qualifying times in all eight of the individual events.

In addition to his involvement on the swim team, Johannes is also a member of the orchestra and played soccer this fall. He plans to run track this spring.

What is the best part about swimming for the Eagles?
The best thing about the swimming team is that we have good swimmers who can compete together in the relays.

What has been the most exciting meet so far for you?
It was the home meet. A swim meet at home is something different than a normal meet.

What is the hardest part of being a student-athlete? How has the environment and people here at Rabun Gap helped you?
The hardest part, in my opinion, is to manage the school time you miss. But a lot of teachers can help you during tutorials to catch up with the other students.

What is the culture on the swim team like? What makes wrestling at Rabun Gap special to you?
Special for me is that my relay team broke school records during this year’s swimming season.

What is your favorite thing about your coaches?
I really like Ms. Landis and the way she does the swimming practice. We do a lot of different things during practice but the practice is neither too hard nor too easy.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I really like being around my friends and have fun with them.

What classes do you love here and why?
I like Mr. Fusco’s tech class because it is not like a normal class. You have real-life applications when you build something out of wood and it is a lot of fun.

What are your plans for after high school?
I a, looking forward to going to college in Germany or the United States and then becoming a businessman.
