Students honor the legacy of MLK through service

Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy, the Middle and Upper Schools focused on service.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day — Monday, January 20 — Upper School students and faculty scattered across campus and throughout the local community to complete more than 20 work projects after a special convocation honoring Dr. King.

Several groups spent the day off-campus volunteering for local organizations in Franklin, NC and Clayton, GA. Students worked on trail maintenance at the Foxfire Museum, organizing inventory at the FAITH thrift stores and First Impressions clothing closet, walked dogs at the Appalachain Animal Rescue Center in Franklin, and sorted food items at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia’s location in Clayton. Two groups also cleaned up litter alongside the roads surrounding the school’s campus, including Kelly’s Creek and Wolffork roads.

On-campus, student groups headed out to locations across Rabun Gap’s 1,400-acre campus. Tasks included brush removal, pasture cleanup, mulching blackberries in the campus orchard, organizing storage spaces in the theater, and more.

On Friday, January 17, Middle School students served at the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia alongside Middle School faculty to commemorate MLK Day of Service.
