Lower and Middle Schools gather donations for children’s home

Students in the Lower and Middle Schools collected donations for children at Calvary Children's Home in Anderson, SC.
Over the past few weeks, students in the Lower and Middle Schools have been ordering and gathering donations for Calvary Home for Children in Anderson, SC. On Thursday, December 12, Ms. Laura Lindsley, a representative from Calvary Home, came to campus to speak to the students during chapel and to take the donations back to the home. She asked the students to take time during this season and throughout the next year to reflect on God’s goodness to them.

The stairwell in the Lower School is lined with a Christmas village decorated with gingerbread houses that students colored in after placing an Amazon or Target order for Calvary Home. Students took QR codes home to their parents that linked directly to Calvary Home’s wish lists and the donated items were shipped directly to the home.

"Our students have created a fictional Christmas village in the stairwell of the Lower School to represent the community of homes at Calvary Home for Children," said Head of the Lower School Ms. Renee Rogers. "Helping our students visualize the village of people and supplies it takes to help care for children allowed them to see the part that they can play in positively impacting other children's lives. Our students and families were eager to help furnish homes for children in our area. It also helped our students to see that each person can make a difference in the lives of others."

In the Middle School, students piled supplies and toys next to the Christmas tree in the queue. After hearing from Ms. Lindsley, the sixth-grade worked together to pack up Ms. Lindsley’s truck with all they had collected and then enjoyed having lunch with her afterward.

Calvary Home strives for every child to be nurtured in a welcoming, reliable, and Christ-centered home and be united with their family as a more physically, emotionally, and academically stable individual. Ms. Lindsley said that the gifts our students provided make a big impact on the children in the home and are a way that God shows his faithfulness and love to them.

"The material contributions poured into Calvary this year from our parents and students in both the Lower and Middle School Divisions were amazing, including strollers and two full size soccer goals," said Middle School science teacher and Experiential Education Coordinator Mr. BySura. "What we saw here at the school was only half of the total contributions, as much was sent directly to Calvary for their new baby house. This has transformed into such a meaningful and important community service project for the students at our school. We hope to visit calvary home within the next few months to continue our relationship and service to these children. Thank you to all who support this mission!"
