Students excel in Chinese Cultural Knowledge Contest

Students in the Upper School Mandarin Program attended the Chinese Cultural Knowledge Contest to compete with other Georgia schools.
Six students from the Upper School Mandarin program excelled at the Chinese Cultural Knowledge Contest at Georgia State University in Dunwoody, GA on Saturday, November 2. 
 
All Georgia high schools that have a Chinese program were invited to attend and Rabun Gap’s students competed against other students from Woodward Academy, The Lovett School, Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology, Alpharetta High School, The Globe Academy, and others. The competition was divided into two parts - written and online with 25 questions each and consisted of two levels: Level One for students who have been studying the language for one to two years and Level Two for students who have studied it for more than two years. 
 
The Rabun Gap students who attended the competition were Ansley Oh ‘22, Cheney Moriarty ‘23, Reid Wheeler ‘23, Ashton Jones ‘22, Tomisin Sarumi ‘21, and Anna Szpak-Szpakowska ‘22. 
 
The following students won awards and prizes:
 
  • Ansley Oh:  First place in the Level Two group competition
  • Cheney Moriarty: Star Student in the Level Two group competition
  • Reid Wheeler: Second place in the Level One group competition 
  • Ashton Jones: Third place in the Level One group competition
  • Tomisin Sarumi: Third place in the Level One group competition 
  • Anna Szpak-Szpakowska: Star Student in the Level One group competition
