All divisions raise donations for Bahamas relief

All three divisions of the school came together over the last few weeks to raise support for those affected by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.
In the wake of Hurricane Dorian’s destruction this fall, Chaplain Mary Demmler and the Upper School Community Service Club led a campus-wide effort to raise a collection, both money and goods, for those affected in the Bahamas.

After hearing from Warren Watkins ‘21, a Bahamian student who spoke at convocation about the devastating effects the hurricane inflicted on his country, students and faculty from all three divisions brought in suggested items from a list provided by the Consulate General of the Bahamas.

Over the course of a few weeks, the School not only collected donations but also raised $1300 to support the relief efforts. The donations will be delivered to the Consulate General of the Bahamas in Atlanta and the money was divided between Mercy Corps and the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.

"Our fall drive is a prime example of the dedication and love of our Rabun Gap family and how the love we show each other radiates into our community and world," said Chaplain Demmler. "I am proud of the response of our campus to this effort."
