Rabun Gap 2 - Anderson Cavaliers 0

he Lady Eagles were at home tonight to take on the Anderson Cavaliers for their second time this season. About two weeks ago, the Eagles missed a win against the Cavaliers by just a few points in each set. In fact, in all 5 of their losses this year, the Eagles were within 4 points of victory in every single set except for one. This highlights how close these competitions have been, and the Eagles didn't want this one to get slip away from them. They came out to show the home crowd their improvement on the season and they didn't disappoint. Early struggles, however, put the Cavaliers on top by 5 points, but the strong net play of Hannah Jane Mellon and Milli Watts was incredible as the Eagles pushed the ball down in the center of the court for 8 kills. Serving errors early in the set kept the Cavaliers close, but the much improved ball control by the Lady Eagles showed as they came back from a 7 point deficit in set one to stun the Cavs 25-20 with a set one victory. The Eagles attack slumped for a short period of time in set two before they really caught fire. Serving improved as well as Isabella Martinez was 12 for 12 serving on the evening and drove several aces in for the Eagles from the baseline. Stellar play by Arabella Nepa and Mary Elizabeth Smith in the back row helped the Eagles set up both outside and second ball attacks in the middle. The Eagles soared to victory and sent the Cavaliers packing with a 25-18 home court victory. Coach BySura had this to say after the game, "Each game shows fewer and fewer mental errors, and ball control is much improved. The difference in the team since day 1 is remarkable given the fact that they have had more games than practice days. I am excited, especially by our youngest players and their tenacity and spirit. Very fun for me to watch them grow and hope they stick with this game for a long time." Your Eagles are now 9-5 and look to win out the season at home NEXT THURSDAY versus CULLOWEE VALLEY at 4:00 PM. Please note the time change, this game will now be at 4:00 PM, and not 4:30.
