First art gallery opening of the year scheduled October 11

Illustrators John and Laura Lakey, major contributors to Dungeons and Dragons, will showcase their work and process.
The first art gallery opening of the academic year at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School will feature the work of artists who’ve created pieces for Dungeons and Dragons, the Cabbage Patch Kids, Anastasia and more.

Artists John and Laura Lakey will be on campus for a gallery opening October 11 at 6:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Arts and Technology Building. The show will feature their work as well as their processes.

About the artists
John and Laura Lakey began their careers as book and magazine illustrators nearly 40 years ago. During that time, they contributed literally thousands of pieces of published art that have run the full gamut from sports magazines to science fiction, fantasy, comic strips, kids’ books and products, and graphic stories. However, they are probably best known as one of the major contributors to the golden age of Dungeons and Dragons.

Aside from working freelance, John has served as an Art Director, Special Project Director, Writer/screenwriter, Creative Director, and finally as a pre Production Designer for Fox Feature Animation.

Laura has won many awards for her solo illustration and fine arts work. She has displayed her western-themed oil paintings in several galleries and is currently finishing a series of colorful retro cowgirl pieces that are an homage to her illustration roots.

Together, the Lakeys have raised 2 1⁄2 children, and 3 and 2⁄3 dogs!
