#RockYourSchool at hit at the Lower School

Lower Schoolers had a fun day of learning during #RockYourSchool on September 19.
The Lower School faculty organized an exciting day of engaged learning on Thursday, September 19 as a part of “Rock Your School” Day. “Rock Your School” is a nationwide initiative encouraging all educators to create a unique educational experience for their students. Thousands of educators across the world took part in the event.

This year, Candyland, rainbows, pirates, outer space, doctors and a carnival showed up to surprise the Lower School students. The Lower School teachers did an incredible job of transforming their classrooms and coming up with inventive and exciting ways to learn.

Students were encouraged to dress up according to the theme of their classroom, and students were eager to meet that challenge! The third-grade came dressed up like candy to celebrate their room’s theme of Candyland and the first-grade looked “arrrrrrr”some as pirates. The preschool classes all dressed in different colors to make up a rainbow and the second-grade donned their medical coats and latex gloves in their newly transformed hospital classrooms. In Ms. Hill’s kindergarten class, students put on their clown noses to participate in the Carnival classroom theme. Lower School administrators also got in on the action with rockstar costumes.

The fourth and fifth grades had a great time with the space theme in their rooms and even enjoyed a special treat - the Macon County Library brought their indoor planetarium to share!

The decision to participate in “Rock Your School” came after several  Lower School teachers attended the Get Your Teach on conference in Washington, D.C.  Classroom transformation and other innovative teaching practices are a part of the daily curriculum at the Evelyne Sheats Lower School, but all teachers came together to create an exciting day for students on Thursday.

I'm so proud to work with a team of educators and parents who create this type of engaging learning more than just once a year. Every day at the Lower School is filled with interactive, ‘show-stopping’ learning delivered by passionate educators,” said Head of the Lower School Ms. Renee Rogers. “I am thankful for our team who spent hours transforming their spaces into unforgettable memories for our children. Our teachers continue to make me proud with their focus on engagement and student-centered learning. They work tirelessly day-in and day-out to create an atmosphere where students are excited and celebrated. Our students learn in an environment that ROCKS every day!
