Student musicians impress at Spring Music Concert

Student musicians showcased their musical prowess at the Spring Music Concert on May 12.
Rabun Gap hosted the Spring Music Concert in the Emily and Ernest Woodruff Chapel on Sunday, May 12. The Upper School orchestra, the Gap 8, the Barbershop Quartet, the Choir, and middle school students put on an incredible performance.  It was a great celebration of their achievement as musicians to close out the 2018-2019 school year!

The orchestra, comprised of 30 student musicians, prepared a program of classical music including works by Beethoven, Glière, and Borodin as well as two Afghan folksongs, one of which was incredibly challenging in 7/8 meter.  Not only did the orchestra members learn the notes and rhythms of all of these pieces, but they brought out the real spirit and emotion of each one. Some instruments played were flute, violin, piano, mandolin, cello, marimba, saxophone, banjo, djembe.

The choir has grown from ten students to 45 this year. Because of the size of the choir, they were able to feature two all women songs and two all men songs, as well as performing altogether. This concert also featured the Gap 8,an a cappella choir, and Rabun Gap's inaugural Barbershop Quartet.

“I am so proud of the music students at Rabun Gap,” said Director of Orchestra Programs Ms. Allegra Boggess. “I am thrilled to work with such talented, enthusiastic, and dedicated students!”
