Sophia Lockwood ‘15 receives Fulbright Scholarship

Alumna Sophia Lockwood '15 will is headed to Indonesia after receiving a Fulbright Scholarship.
Sophia Lockwood ’15 has received a Fulbright Scholarship to work as an English Teaching Assitant in Indonesia starting this July.

After graduating from Rabun Gap in 2015, Lockwood began attending Villanova University and will graduate in May with a history degree concentrating on peace and justice. She decided a year ago to apply to the Fulbright Program and was thrilled to have been awarded a grant.

Lockwood will not only be working as an English Teaching Assistant but will also participate in community engagement; one of her primary goals is to work with the Indonesian Mobile Library Network, which gifts children in rural areas with books. She will be in Indonesia for 10 months.

“I am extremely excited about all the joys and challenges that are to come with this opportunity,” shared Lockwood. “I believe that these are the moments that remind me of all the people and choices that helped me obtain something so special. Some of the first people I reached out to when I found out were members of my Rabun Gap family.”

After fulfilling her time in Indonesia, Lockwood plans on returning to Villanova to pursue a masters degree in public history.
