Lunar New Year celebrated

Students enjoyed celebrating Lunar New Year on February 5.
All three divisions celebrated Lunar New Year on Tuesday, February 5. Students were encouraged to wear red, a color that symbolizes good luck, and enjoyed being immersed in the Chinese culture for the day.

The Evelyne Sheats Lower School students learned about Lunar New Year costumes, “Best Wishes” phrases, and each grade also made crafts to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The students learned and sang the Mandarin version of Happy New Year and said “Best Wishes” greetings during the morning meeting.

The Middle School had a big Lunar New Year celebration in the afternoon and invited the fourth and fifth-grade classes to participate. Students from the Upper School came to give a short presentation to the younger students. After the presentation was over, the Upper School students ran several learning stations, each equipped with an activity that reflected the Lunar New Year or culture. Some of the stations included Chinese Knot making, chopstick races, dumpling-making, watching a video of a Lunar New Year celebration, and writing names in Chinese characters.
