All Saints' Day Chapel honors those who've passed on

Rabun Gap held a special chapel on All Saints' Day to honor those from the community who have passed.
Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School honored alumni and friends of the school who passed away this year during a special All Saints' Day Chapel on Thursday, November 1. The names of those who had passed were read, each followed by the ringing of a bell. After the bells had been rung, Head of School Dr. Anthony Sgro spoke.

Dr. Sgro showed pictures from the Capuchic Crypt in Rome, Italy, where the chapels are made out of the bones of monks. He shared that these bones challenge us to think about what we are doing with our lives today. He asked the students and faculty in attendance to consider what they were going to make their lives about. He said that All Saints’ Day is not only an opportunity for us to be thankful for those who have passed - those who were faithful and actively engaged in the world - but also an opportunity to look at those who are around us and who exemplify the same qualities of saintliness.

“Think about the people in this community who mean something to you. Take a moment to pray for them and thank God that they are in the world and have intersected with your life,” said Dr. Sgro. “Take ten minutes to write a note to someone to thank them for being a saint in your life, for what they do in your sphere and your world.”

He also asked how those in attendance could be saints in the lives of those around them.

“In my mind, there are a lot of saints on this campus,” said Dr. Sgro.
