Eighth grade visits Washington, DC

Eighth grade takes a trip to Washington, DC for Extension Week.
While the sixth and seventh-graders had adventures of their own, the eighth grade went on their annual trip to Washington, DC on October 22-26.

The students departed early Monday morning for our nation’s capital and arrived late that night. During their stay, they visited several museums, including the Holocaust Museum, Air & Space Museum, and the African American History Museum. They had the opportunity to explore around the capital and visit many monuments, such as the Lincoln Monument, the Vietnam Memorial, and the MLK Memorial. They toured historical landmarks in the area, most notably the Capitol Building, the White House, and Arlington Cemetery.

In the evenings, they visited Chinatown, Union Station and even had some fun in an escape room.

The group returned to Rabun Gap on Friday night, exhausted but having truly enjoyed their experience in DC.

“The students had an enjoyable time mixing learning, tourism, and fun,” said Mr. Cory Heselton, middle school Mandarin teacher, one of the faculty members who went on the trip with the students.
