Soccer Success

With a cumulative record of 40-7-3, all three boys soccer teams had a lot to celebrate in 2018!
The fall proved to be a spectacular one for all three boys soccer teams. Our middle school soccer team finished 13-2-1 while winning the Tri-State Championship in an exciting overtime game on October 5. Rabun Gap defeated Tallulah Falls on penalty kicks by the count of 5-3. Coach Heselton stated, "Both Coach Buice and I are proud of the way the team worked together, accepted their roles, and showed that the whole is indeed greater than the sum of the parts." Coach Heselton and Coach Buice did a fabulous job as they began the season with nine new starters and a new goal keeper.

The JV boys soccer team finished 12-2-2 while playing many varsity teams during their season. They finished the season 10-0-1 during the final eleven games, winning their last eight by a combined scored of 35 to 8. Head coach, Gabriel Berges, said, "If there is one thing that characterizes the JV soccer team it would be the determination to keep learning and improving in every practice and game." Coach Berges and Coach Gordon Williams did a fabulous job with this group of young men. The future is certainly bright for Rabun Gap Soccer.

The Varsity boys soccer team went 15-3 in route to their first Final Four appearance at the NCISAA 4A tournament. Two of their three losses were to the two teams playing in the state championship game...both on their home fields. The Eagles won the CAA championship for the first time since 2008 by going 8-0. It was their first trip to the NCISAA tournament since 2010. "The varsity boys program had a historic year reaching the Final Four of NCISAA 4A state playoffs," said Coach Amani. "I am extremely proud of my players and their achievement this year. We hope to have set a precedent for future Rabun Gap varsity soccer programs."

What an unbelievable fall season for our boys soccer teams. A record of 40-7-3 for all three teams is something to celebrate. Congratulations to all our coaches and soccer players for a job well done.
