Middle Schoolers put cirque skills on display

Middle Schoolers showed off their cirque skills at a showcase.
The Middle School Cirque displayed their skills at a showcase on Friday, October 19 in the Blackbox at Rearden Theater. All 21 students performed four at a time on the lyra, trapeze and two silks. Each student was given the opportunity to choose to showcase their talents on two of the apps.

The students in this performance have been working on their cirque skills all trimester in the afternoon activity. Each one gained skills on the silks, trapeze, and lyra with a focus on form, poise, and musicality. During the afternoon activity, the students did daily stretches and exercises for strength training and flexibility. They played many performance and exercise- based games. Ms. Terri Manoogian heads up the cirque program. The Middle Schoolers in the afternoon program were coached by senior Olivia Tavolacci '19. Ms. Beth Loveland assisted in leading the class.

This was my first year working with Middle School Cirque, and it was a blast. We had a big group of energetic girls who had an incredible amount of collective strength and talent. I was amazed at how much they learned in a very short amount of time. Some students had a difficult time even getting on the apps at the beginning of the season and by the end were doing elegant drops. I was so proud of them during the showcase that it brought tears to my eyes,” said Ms. Loveland.
