Faculty Feature: Ms. Agata Potter, Lower School Music Teacher

This week's Friday Feature is Ms. Agata Potter, Lower School Music Teacher.
Ms. Agata Potter, who currently serves as the Lower School Music Teacher, joined Rabun Gap in 2014 as the Middle School Music Teacher. Originally from Warsaw, Poland, she moved to the United States in 1999. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance with a minor in Cello from the University of West Florida and has studied music and voice at the Academy of Music and College for Teachers (both in Poland). Prior to Rabun Gap, Ms. Potter taught at West Navarre Primary School in Navarre, Florida, where she collaborated with the faculty to facilitate learning through music, dance and readers’ theater.  She lives with her husband, Andrew, in Sky Valley, GA. Their son, Kacper Nicholas Kuzimski, is a member of the Rabun Gap Graduating Class of 2019.

Why did you decide to become a teacher?  
I love to learn from children.
 
What is your teaching philosophy?  
I believe that music is an international language. Every child should have the opportunity to study music.
 
What were you like in high school?
I was passionate and very focused on studying singing.
 
How many years of experience do you have as a teacher?  
I have 18 years of teaching experience.
 
What inspires you? 
My students’ enthusiasm for studying their instruments inspires me.
 
What interests do you pursue outside of the classroom?  
I enjoy knitting and woodworking.   
     
What are you known for? 
In my classroom, I am known for setting high standards and expectations.  Outside the classroom, I’m known for my loud Polish accent and funny stories from my childhood.

What’s the most interesting thing about you that we wouldn’t learn from your resume alone? 
I love ping-pong!
