Rising sophomore Alex Mescher is completing an engineering internship with Duotech Services
Many Rabun Gap students use their summer break to gain valuable internship experience. Rising sophomore Alex Mescher of Otto, NC is working with Duotech Services in Franklin, NC this summer. 

Duotech Services is a Requirements Driven Company structured to solve the engineering, reverse engineering, repair and re-manufacturing problems of military and civilian agencies, as well as aerospace and commercial users of electronic and electromechanical equipment.

What do you do on the job?
This summer I am interning at a radar company called Duotech Services in Franklin, NC. My internship mostly consists of assisting to design, manufacture, and inspect radar systems for use in fighter jets. To do this I use CNC mills, laser cutters, 3D CAD design software, and robotic inspection machines. Currently, we are working on upgraded replacement radar systems for F-5 and F-16 fighter jets.

Why you wanted to intern?
I wanted to intern in order to get experience in the field of engineering and to build my resume for college admittance.

How has interning been a benefit for you this summer?
This internship has been an enormous benefit for me because I have learned a multitude of invaluable engineering skills that will put me ahead of the game for college and my career. Furthermore, I have enjoyed working with all of the great people at Duotech and they have made my job amazing.

What do you want to do after high school?
After high school, I would like to go to college to obtain degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Upon graduation, I would like to become an entrepreneur and start my own technology company in the areas of computing and artificial intelligence.
