Perez Knowles '14 signs with Cincinnati Reds

Eagles alumni is first Rabun Gap grad to sign with the major leagues
Perez Knowles '14 has signed with the Cincinnati Reds organization, making him the first Rabun Gap alum to sign with a major league team. He will play for the Greenville (TN) Reds in the Appalachian League this summer.

Knowles was a senior on the Eagles baseball team that went to the NCISAA Final 4 in 2014. He was also the starting pitcher in the DII World Series Final this spring for Columbus State University in Columbus, GA. Pictured is Knowles playing for the Eagles in 2014.

"Perez began playing on the varsity baseball team at Rabun Gap as an 8th grader and so I had the pleasure of coaching him for five years. He was a team leader and one of the hardest workers I have ever coached.  He was a big part of our making the 2014 Final Four in the state baseball tournament his senior year," said Eagles Baseball Coach Stuart Jump. "Perez dedicated himself to being the best baseball player he could be from an early age and it is great to see all of that hard work pay off with him signing a contract to pitch in the Cincinnati Reds organization.  His dream was to play professional baseball and I am thrilled that he is going to get the chance to do that."
