Daphne Lucana ‘19 of Buford, GA, has earned a full scholarship to attend the residential Carnegie Mellon University Summer Academy for Mathematics and Science this summer in Pittsburgh.

The Summer Academy for Math and Science provides rising high school seniors with a strong interest in computer science, engineering and/or the natural sciences, with the opportunity to achieve essential skills necessary to pursue and complete majors in STEM fields.

Daphne said each summer, she plans an independent study of STEM courses and that the Carnegie Mellon program will allow her to change up the setting to test the waters of college life while expanding her STEM education. Daphne’s passion for the STEM field is strong.

“Since I was in grade school, learning from legendary experiments of the past sparked my curiosity,” Daphne said. “ I feel that STEM allows me to express my ingenuity.
